A Holistic Cannabis Nurse plays a pivotal role in empowering individuals to optimize their health and wellbeing through education + support in Endocannabinoid System (ECS) nourishment. Often people are coming to cannabis in their most vulnerable states (or as a last resort) and it takes a special skill set and level of passion to hold space for these individuals as they navigate their journeys towards health and wellbeing.

A Holistic Cannabis Nurse provides expert guidance and quality evidence-informed ECS education. They help individuals establish effective cannabinoid regimes that are used as tools to help manage symptoms and restore quality of life. They teach clients how to ebb and flow their cannabis dosing in response to a variety of factors, including but not limited to; stressful situations, illness and hormone fluctuations. They may also help advocate within the healthcare system to ensure clients’ needs are heard, respected, and met. Through holistic nursing support and education, the ultimate goal of a Holistic Cannabis Nurse is to leave clients feeling empowered, educated and unapologetic in their use of cannabis to care and support their ECS.

              Job   Description             

  • Overview:

    As a Holistic Cannabis Nurse at The Cannabis Nurses + Co, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality cannabis education and care to clients within Veterans Affairs Canada as well as to the general public. The ideal candidate is compassionate, flexible, innovative, and possesses excellent communication skills. This role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, assessing client needs, implementing care plans, providing evidence-informed education, and ensuring the overall well-being of clients.

    Responsibilities:

    Client Care: Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and work with clients to develop individualized care plans. Provide extensive cannabis and endocannabinoid system teaching to clients and families and provide individualized cannabis protocols based on client's medical history, compensable conditions, current symptoms and consumption preferences. Monitor and evaluate client responses to interventions and adjust care plans accordingly. Educate clients and their families on health management and preventive care through endocannabinoid nourishment. Refer clients to additional health care providers, resources, or supports as needed.

    Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, healthcare providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate client care. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure a seamless flow of information and continuity of care.

    Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed client records within Practice Better platform and maintain compliance with regulatory standards of BHSOL. Document nursing assessments, interventions, client responses, and any changes in medical conditions. Complete required documentation for admissions, standardized assessment tools, discharges, and any transfers of care.

    Compliance: Adhere to all provincial healthcare regulations, standards, and guidelines. Implement infection control measures and maintain a safe and clean environment for clients and staff. Stay informed about industry developments and best practices in nursing.

    Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay current with advancements in nursing practice. Pursue opportunities for continuing education and training as available.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    + Bachelor's in Nursing degree from an accredited institution.

    + Current and valid Registered Nursing license.

    + Completion of the CIINDE's Holistic Cannabis Nurse Program

    Experience:

    Minimum 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting (experience working with complex and/or vulnerable populations is an asset).

    Skills:

    + Strong clinical and critical-thinking skills.

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    + Flexibility and time management skills.

    + Excellent written documentation skills

    Certifications:

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) First Aid & CPR certifications.

    + Crisis Intervention Training an asset but not required

    Working Conditions:

    This position involves working any number of hours per week, depending on number of new referrals, active caseload, client needs, and personal schedule preferences. Physical requirements may include the ability to move patients and equipment but generally involve periods of desk/computer work or sitting with your clients in person/on the phone completing assessments, education and follow ups.

    Compensation:

    For work completed with Veteran’s Affairs Canada, TCN + Co Holistic Cannabis Nurses will be compensated at a competitive hourly rate based on hourly occurrences. Compensation for public client bookings will be based on package pricing.
